That certainly is strange... Sounds like you definitely hit some sort of Solr bug, but I don't see how an error in schema parsing can be lost w/o it going into a log somewhere. Did you check the other Tomcat log files? Perhaps try putting your schema.xml into the example distributed with Solr (jetty based) and see what happens. -Yonik
