This is an old bug report, but I also ran into this issue. The cups-pdf
package allows CUPS to directly have a pdf printer. When I installed it,
it provides a ppd file (/etc/cups/ppd) with the margins settings all the
way to the edge of the paper with the code
*ImageableArea Letter/US Letter: "0 0
I was able to successfully compile gtkpod from SVN on Fesity and Gusty
by installing libmp4v2-dev from the Debian repositories, which depended
on libmp4v2, libmpeg4ip, and libmpeg4ip-dev.

I have the same issue with using the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver in
Ubuntu 7.04. Last night I changed drivers and just noticed this issue on
my laptop. I have changed back to the xserver-xorg-vide-i810 along and
using 915resolution to get 1280x800 on my screen, which is a work
around. The reas

The command
lpadmin -p (printer name) -E -v (DeviceURL) -P /usr/share/cups/model/(PPD file
name)
fixed the crashing issue on my Brother HL-2040.
