Also having this problem on a Toshiba Laptop Satellite L305-S5955. I believe this problem is the same as bug# 463611. ACPI doesn't seem to work correctly until the suspend. The FN keys (LCD adjust, etc) do not work either until the suspend. Suspending by closing laptop lid doesn't work either.
