When I add a buddy and want to select a group for him the combobox
appears on the top left side of the screen. Selecting on this combobox
does nothing.

Programs > System Tools > New login < you have to enable this in
your menu editor
or using the Fast User Switcher Applet
my system totally hangs. I see a black screen and no key shortcuts like
CTRL+SH

I'm experiencing this almost once a day even on the 2.6.28-13-generic.
This mostly happens randomly while browsing the net with firefox.
I've attached:
- a screen shot when it happened,
- my syslog where you can find the moments when it happened by searching
the phrase 'soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck

I have a similar experience on Ubuntu 8.04.
I've attached the debug log. The freeze happened on 13:55:48.
This only happens when Pidgin is set to auto-connect on start up.
When I type pidgin -n it always works fine.

I have the same problem on my laptop. A get a 1-2 sec glitch when I resize or
maximize a window. I also get a <1 sec glitch on popup menus. All this seem to
pick the CPU.
I've attached my laptops configuration. Please let me know if you'd like some
more info.

My Dell Studio 17 with Juanty crushes 2-4 times a day when I'm using

Personally I regret trying to upgrade to Karmic. I had a severe bug in
Jaunty that freezed my system once a day. When I upgraded to Karmic my
