Hi everyone,
I found one problem.
The default user profile for me, as the only user, did not include sound
card privileges.
I unlocked the settings and checked the box, then re-booted the
computer. I still only have sound in Audacity, but the error messages
have changed.

I followed the steps in this post and the sound is still not working.
I found what might be a clue in sound preferences - screenshot attached.
ALSA Multi gives me the same error as I had before.
