Rod40cool's instructions worked for me once I read the added comment The workaround above works, with "device=hw:M44".
I understood what to do. I have broken my computer by typing things in to Terminal that I did not understand, so I try to be more cautious now. After I rebooted the computer, glorious sound was heard, but I also received the attached warning.
