I have two logins running. The one in the background is idle. When I
am in my current login and inserting CD's, copying contents to home and
then ejecting the CD, it will often report I do not have permissions to
eject the CD.

This is no longer an issue for me.
The installation selection of US Int'l 105-key I changed to USA Generic
104-key and applied system-wide.

I use GNU Cash and tried your steps above but do not get a lockup. I
also tried the terminal moving through the command list but also did not
experience any problems.
I still have disabled compiz, NVidia proprietary drivers, and Open GL
screensavers. Since disabling all of those I have experienc

off ACPI by changing display inactive to Never. Since then I have not
had any lockups. I am back to running 2.6.24.
Also an update 2 days ago updated the ACPI as well. This problem might
be corrected.

I keep having Hardy freeze up on me. So far each time I have been in

I suspect the Nvidia drivers (169.12) since I never had this problem
with Feisty

I have the same problem with ALC883 but with a different motherboard.
The ASRock 4COREDUAL-SATA2 PT880 775 runing an Intel Duo Core 2
processor. The sound is very quiet but can be heard at near full
volume.

Daniel I agree with you. The solution implemented does not address the
original concern. IMHO it would have been better to remove the
reformatting functionality entirely, or else remove it from the LiveCD
and default installation.

I was running the Karmic Beta LiveCD with noswap setup. I have 2 GB of
RAM.
I activated and installed the Nvidia video driver, which would be lost

My USB drive was formatted with 3 partitions; 750 MB fat32 with Jaunty
OS, and 2 ext2 partitions.

I see that lp:~flimm/usb-creator/warn-before-format was added as a fix
to this bug.
Is this a temporary fix or the final solution? I hope that it is
temporary since there is no other behavior in Ubuntu that reformats an
entire drive, wiping out all partitions at once.
If this is the final soluti
I agree this function should do more than warn you it will format the
whole drive.
The "USB disk to use:" window in USB Startup Disk Creator only shows
partitions and not the whole drive. By selecting a partition it should
only format that partition.

I would like to propose my original request.
Fix it so that it works on the partition selected and not the entire
disk. A warning is a poor substitute.
If it cannot be done then I suggest the usb-creator be removed from the
standard installation of Ubuntu.
