I am having the exact same problem. One person in my Contacts has a Work and Home email address. When I create a new message and click the To button to list the names, his name is listed twice (once for each email address).
If I click on one address the other disappears. If I hold the shift key down to select both names, it adds the first address, ignores the second address for the same person, and adds the address of the next person in my Contacts list.
