Symptom was present on Gutsy (7.10), on Toshiba Satellite.
Now with fresh install of Hardy (8.04) on same machine, symptom NOT present.
Symptom seems non-reproducible. Suspect it was fixed accidentally in the
mean-while as a part of another bug.
Unless someone else still experiences this problem,

As this 'is' a bug, and should be fixed (using backports sounds like a
workaround, not a solution), I ask now;
How do i progress this bug, and move it from 'Incomplete' to 'new', and
get someone to generally accept it (or even take notice of it) ???

I am currently working in Germany, and so have had the need to open up
the German keyboard layout from time to time.
umlaut characters work, but one that I have noticed is not available, is the @
symbol.

would call that a bug.

I decided I would try manually removing all files related to 'adium'.
Figuring that if the apt-get process is failing because of an incomplete
script file, then it would never get fixed by itself.
So I did a "find" over the system, and come up with a list of files, and
then removed them
unfortunately, it is no longer possible to reproduce this as I have moved on
from that environment (jaunty alpha + nvidia).
I will take note of your comments regarding debugging the program crash and
will hopefully be able to provide more information next time I come across a

I noticed a brasero update this morning.
I installed.
The attempt to copy a CD resulted in the following:
(note: I didn't think to write it down as it was happening, and a
subsequent attempt in copy does not go through the whole process).
note 2: I am running Gnome, ; somehow kpackagekit manage

I am using plain old gnome calendar, straight out of the box, albeit with an
extra country configured.
For me, it seems it takes forever (5 seconds) to load and show.
But this is only the first one or two times I click it.
Subsequent times it is fast again.

I tried several combinations. And to start with, there was no matching
entry for my vendor or product. I had to add them myself to test this
potential fix. Seems like there are several causes for the same
symptoms, as this has helped some people but not others.

I am using Huawei E160E HSDPA
It was no good in Karmic, and it is worse in Lucid.
The fix:
sudo aptitude install usb-modeswitch usb-modeswitch-data
doesn't help at all.
I have resorted to buying a 3G Router . cost me $180 (still better
than the alternatives)

An update from me;
Unfortunately the above 'fix' does not work on my machine.
I have not the time to test this in a different install order at the
moment, but what I did was this;
1. install proprietary drivers (which I use in karmic) for ATI
result: whereas notifications kind of popped up whe
supposed fix: sudo aptitude install usb-modeswitch usb-modeswitch-data
does not help me.

I also have a 3g modem issue. I am using a huawei e1762,
The opposite is correct for me.
Only if i have it inserted at boot is it likely to work.
Seemed to be working perfectly for lucid alpha 3, until I installed all updates
from the 7th of March 2010.
After that 3G modem was very unreliably

Yes, but I think I agree with Nicolas in saying that would shouldn't
lessen the status of this bug, since many people can't live with the
free driver due to power management concerns.
A Bug is a bug, and as bugs go, this is still a whopper,
until it is fixed.
Lets hope soon.

sony vaio brightness key doesn't work)
But as it's title specified Kubuntu only, I was afraid my particular
