Ok, I got a chance to check the burned image on the media. it is fine.
I used:
md5sum -c md5sum.txt | grep -v "OK$"
and it returned no messages

For anyone monitoring this issue, it appears that it is no longer an
issue in 12.04 alpha 1; specifically the daily build from 1/20/2012.
That particular liveCD worked fine. Recognized the integrated video and
my wireless rt-5390 card.

When attempting to load the 11.10 Live-CD I cannot get ubuntu to boot
into a graphical interface. It gets to a black screen, sometimes
flickers, and then stops. I have tried booting the Live-CD with the
following kernel startup parameters:
nomodeset
radeon.modeset=0
radeon.
I checked the .iso image that was downloaded:
