Please reopen this bug.
First of all, you are correct in that LDFLAGS is a user flag. However,
as I mentioned in my comment, this bug also affects AM_LDFLAGS.
Second of all, you are very wrong when you say it only affects CDBS, it
also affects my own project, LiVES (http://lives.sourceforge.net),
It is very simple to reproduce this.
1) Try to build LiVES using ubuntu build tools.
2) Observe that in the directory lives/lives-plugins/weed-plugins, the
flags
-Wl,-Bsymbolic -module -avoid-version --tag=disable-static
are not set, even though these are set in AM_LDFLAGS (via
$(shared_ldflag
3) Once you have done this, you can verify that unbuntu is causing this,
by building using:
./configure && make
and the flags will appear as expected.

I would really like to get this synced for Lucid. Previous versions of LiVES

Hello, is anybody from ubuntu going to have the courtesy to respond to

Some additional information:
- this bug is now blocking LiVES 1.1.6 and higher from ubuntu, leaving

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: dpkg
dpkg sets LDFLAGS to -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions. This causes bugs and
crashes in the LiVES package.
The LiVES package has very specific LDFLAGS, CFLAGS and so on. These
should not be overwritten.
I consider this a very serious issue.

Actually, in this instance there is a different fix, which is to do the

this will use the default supplied config and cause the fonts to be used

I am not sure how the config could be broken - this was a fresh install

- with the default install, projectM was complaining about not being
able to load the dejavu fonts.
- copying config.inp to ~/.projectM fixed this.
