Adding a bit of a "me too", but it might be worth noting that this
happens after a bit of a delay: nautilus freezes for a while, and then
~30 seconds later that error pops up. Also, I only managed to make it
work in Oneiric once, was never able to make it work again.

I have the same problem as everyone here, I am using the 295.33 version
seems to have solved my problem. The nouveau driver worked wonderfully
as well. My only issue with nouveau is the high fan speeds are really
annoying and power consuming. I hope to see fixed version soon.

And oh I am on GeForce GT230. Just some additional info: The 3D unity
loads fine as long as i don't do anything slightly cpu intensive (like
loading a html5 video in firefox 12) and the gpu crashes and logs me off
(not shutdown but just log off). But 2D unity seems to work just fine in
the new driv
Edit: nevermind it crashed again with the old driver. I think i am going
to just use 2d from now on i guess.

When you open a nautilus window, it is slightly too narrow to show four
columns, so instead it shows three with a chunk of space wasted. See the
attached screenshot. It probably should remember the size it was last
made, or at least be a little bit wider.

I don't know what I've changed from default. This installation is a few
years old now, I've probably poked and prodded at all kinds of things.
This morning however it seems to be doing 4 columns. I don't know if it
remembered a resizing I did in a previous session, or something's
updated and chang
I tried a guest session and it worked. Also, remember resizing is
working for me now too. I guess it was some artefact of the upgrade that
was doing weird things and then got better, so I'll mark this as
invalid.

In the interest of code improvement, I made a patch that fixes the issue
and additionally searches for /usr/share/backgrounds/installer.png when
using feh (the current list is rather arbitrary).
The patch is for the trusty-proposed version of ubiquity, 2.18.8.3
