I had this on 3 different Systems, all of them rendered useless.
Workaround when it happened was to enter shell (strg-alt-F1) DO NOT BOOT THE
MACHINE
dpkg --configure -a
apt-get remove amarok amarok-engine-xine
and continue with
apt-get update
apt-get dist-

I can confirm, with BIOS 10G the flickering has gone and I am not able
to provoke it again. With the brightness-applet there are 9 levels of
brightness available.

I was only able to reproduce the problem once. The other tools were
woorking well and xgps crashes even when gpsd is started with the -b
switch. (see the short log at the end).
Now I have recorded the output of my gps several times with gpscat and

The kernel 2.6.31-18 from karmic proposed fixed the problem with the webcam
"0c45:62c0 Microdia Sonix USB 2.0 Camera" in my MSI U100.

If I open a new terminal ('ctrl-alt-t' or from the run menu), then maximize and
un-maximize i get odd behavior. maximize does fine, but then clicking the
'un-maximize' does restore the terminal window to the previous size *minus* 1

is updated and the system on the laptop is now Ubuntu 15.04. The

Now the scanner works perfect and I am not aware of negative effects.

I found a workaround which reduces the problem. The microphone is still
not working. I installed the mixer pavucontrol. In the configuration tab
I switched off the HDMI profile. See attached screenshot. Now the
speaker is working fine for me.

I run in this problem, when I have an open ssh connectioan and my laptop
goes in standby. Later I resume my OS and the ssh connection in guake
