I think that's fixed it. I've installed the new version in Intrepid (Jaunty's only a month away - time flies). The scrolling crash is gone, and I've added several more of the frames and formatting that made it crash before with no incidents. I'll follow up if I encounter anything similar, but

Oops. It looks like it's ANY mpeg. I had some mp4's in the same directory that it was playing fine. Xine, mplayer, VLC .. everybody plays them fine except Totem.
