Interesting. For me this is different-- in Keyboard Shortcuts, pressing
the mute button produces XF86RaiseVolume.

Hold on, this bug is not resolved for me. I still have this bug in

the previous respondent has fixed the problem, I would love to know how!
Other issues include:

Or it could be that he fixed it by independent efforts as he suggested.
Many other people have identified this as a problem, as well. Perhaps
it warrants more investigation? At the very least I'd like to know how
Matt fixed it...?

I've upgraded to the latest Ubuntu (8.10) on my Thinkpad G41, and the up
and down volume buttons now trigger XF86AudioRaiseVolume and LowerVolume
respectively. So that works. However, the mute button seems to ALSO
trigger the XF86RaiseVolume event, rather than some sort of mute event
as it should
Ah, no sweat. Thanks for looking!
I should really spend some time actually investigating the problem in an
in-depth, technical fashion. I'll go ahead and file a new bug report,
along with whatever I can figure out about the issue on my computer.

Hi! Sorry I haven't updated for a while.
The answer is, I upgraded to OpenOffice 3.0.0 Beta, and the problem was
fixed. Of course this is useless for trying to discover the cause of
the bug, but at least it means that the problem is apparently already
fixed upstream...?
Anyway, I'm a little bus
I can also confirm this bug on a Thinkpad G41. Volume controls worked
fine under Gutsy with thinkpad-keys, but stopped under Hardy. This is a
definite regression.
I tried all methods listed in the wiki and got absolutely no response
from the volume buttons.

I should have mentioned this earlier, but the problem has been fixed for
me in Ubuntu 8.10. So you could probably mark it 'resolved'.

I confirm this bug as well, with the official Gutsy release. I'm using
an IBM Thinkpad G41 with an NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 with 64 MB of RAM.
I've made no modifications to the compiz options. I have one Firefox

Hi, all. This seems like such an obvious bug, there must be something
specific causing it or it would have been reported before...
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on a Thinkpad G41. The package openoffice.org-

Hi! No problem on the backtrace. Here's what I did:
1. Used synaptic to install debug symbols. I wasn't sure which to add, so I
basically went through the dependencies for the Impress package and its
dependencies, and installed debug symbols for all of those packages.

Hmph. I just realized that I titled this bug wrong. It should of
course be "INSERT->Picture->From file...". I got it wrong in the first
description too. "Insert", not "import". Duh.

This may be related, or not, but I have a Thinkpad G41, and after
installing Ubuntu Hardy, I found a similar problem. Upon resuming from

maybe 0.2 sec or so. This was definitely not a problem before
installing Hardy. The nasty
Looks like this bug has been dormant for a few months. Rather than file
a new report I'm going to chime in here to say that I have this exact
problem. I have a Thinkpad G41 running an up-to-date fresh install of
Ubuntu Hardy (with a few small config tweaks). My laptop reliably

I agree that this is an extremely serious bug, which should be fixed as
soon as possible. Ubuntu is supposed to be the user-friendly Linux
dist, right? Well, one of the most common things the average user does
is attach external USB devices (ie. pen drives and hard drives). If a

Whoops- I should add that I DO use Ubuntu and have for some time, and in
general I love it. :-) But this bug definitely feels like regression
to me.
