have php4-cli installed, and executing "/usr/bin/php" caused some
warnings:

Looks like Gutsy enables xgl by default, and this is really slow with
ATI driver with Radeon 9200. To disable xgl: "touch ~/.config/xserver-
xgl/disable" (make sure ~/.config/xserver-xgl is created first). Once
XGL is not used, it should be as fast as Feisty..

Sorry, I don't know. I fixed it myself last time by running the same command
that Rachel mentioned.
I have not gone back since to see if it's been fixed. I don't think I'll ever
go back to Dapper to reproduce this bug though.

xserver-xorg-video-* did not get installed during upgrade from dap

I also found that after purging and reinstalling mysql-server, it still didn't
work.
On clean install, mysqld looks for /etc/mysql/conf.d. If that dir isn't there,
it exits.
I simply had to "sudo mkdir /etc/mysql/conf.d" yesterday, and "sudo aptitude
upgrade" after that, and mysql starts install
