I don't mean to be rude, but what's taking it so long to release
ktorrent-kde4 3.0? I mean I waited for some time until I got fed up and
compiled a deb myself. There are outstanding bugs which depend on this
issue, as stated earlier. Examples being the segfault bug and the bug
regarding the ulimit.
I'd like to mention that the 1:3.0~rc1-0ubuntu2 version included a
wrapper that looked like this:

Try re-binding your multimedia keys again. That works for me. If not,
try using "xev" in the terminal and see what keys are being sent when
you press your multimedia keys.

I cannot upgrade nautilus because when i use "sudo apt-get upgrade" it
says that all the packages are kept back and does nothing. When I use
"sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" I get the output as shown above. I just
aborted because it tries to remove nautilus as well as ubuntu-desktop,

Okay I removed nautilus-open-terminal and tried again. This time yields
more interesting results. Nautilus doesn't segfault. However, it keeps
opening (shows the desktop and my home directory for a brief moment),
and crashing, and repeating the process until I send SIGKILL to it.

Well why don't you get an Ubuntu Gutsy LiveCD and try doing some heavy
transfers on that other Thinkpad to see if the problem persists?
You could also try using an FC7 LiveCD on the Thinkpad that locks up and
see if the problem persists to be sure if it's really Ubuntu's fault.

Fascinating. So these kernel freezes are actually caused by the kernel
entering an infinite loop? We should also check with other distros to
see if the problem occurs with them. I know that none of the Ubuntu
users I know personally seem to have the problem though. Including me.

I found the source of the problem. It was mainly memory corruption
caused by improper calculation of malloc() size. I've created a patch,
which I will attach. The patch is made specifically for 0.7 though. I'm

When setting a skydome image, and then testing it, the skydome image
appears. However, upon a restart of the computer (or just Compiz
Fusion), the skydome image doesn't appear anymore. I can fix this by
