Hi, same here, after kernel update no nvidia-340.
Tried the manual dkms rebuild, but no retpoline in vermagic afterwards
either.
Checked gcc: apt says 4:4.8.2-1ubuntu6, but /usr/bin/gcc says
4.8.5-1ubuntu1~14.04 .
`which gcc` confirms using /usr/bin/gcc
What about that?

I also tried to switch to the main ubuntu server for maybe the local

anything more from main.

Just to be sure, I just reinstalled the -116 kernel as suggested by
earthspike, and fun fact, DMKS was not run at all. No kernel modules
were built. Also, no errors nor warnings that I can see.
Any ideas?

As mentioned in #47, same problem on trusty + xenial HWE stack
(14.04.5).
Additionally, had a gcc version mismatch, don't know where that came
from.
Meta package gcc was 4:4.8.2-1ubuntu6, but /usr/bin/gcc (and corresponding
package gcc-4.8) was 4.8.5-1ubuntu1~14.04 .
I also had installed just gc

@savoury1 Rob, as a hotfix, you could add the lib (already built for
vlc3 PPA) to the ffmpeg5 PPA. If that's more complicated than I think,
until you have time for a better solution, just add the vlc3 PPA
(containing the missing lib) to the install instructions of the ffmpeg5
PPA as noted in

Thanks for the fix and also for bringing the ffmpeg-git PPA to my attention. I
might try that on one of my systems, although -- if the ffmpeg5 PPA can be
considered more stable -- I still might use that for livecd ISO-s.
