Public bug reported: Base Ubuntu version: 18.04.6 (bionic) with HWE upgrades enabled
Distribution in use: Lubuntu All SavOS PPAs used (when problem happened): - backports - display - ffmpeg4 - ffmpeg5 - gimp - graphics - mpv - multimedia - utilities All other PPAs used: <no conflict, no point> Bug details: FFmpeg in [ppa:savoury1/ffmpeg5](https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/ffmpeg5) currently depends on `libavcodec59` which in turn depends on `libx264-163`. (Recursively) Following the PPA install instructions (adding additional PPAs from this PPAs owner) still does not provide this package, therefore `ffmpeg` (currently, version `7:5.0-2ubuntu0~18.04.sav0`) is uninstallable (following the instructions). NOTE, by adding all PPAs suggested by the PPA owner for all referenced PPAs recursively, then running `sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade && sudo apt dist-upgrade` (as instructed) upgraded everything else, only `ffmpeg` (of mentioned version) was held back. Also, `libx264-164` was installed after the upgrades, but `libavcodec59` wants explicitly `libx264-163`. SUSPECTED CAUSE: Incorrect dependency definition in package `libavcodec59` not allowing for newer version or `libx264-164` incorrectly providing, or in case `libx264-163` and `libx264-164` are indeed API/ABI incompatible and not wanting to depend on `libx264-164`, incorrectly not providing the lib in the PPA or not advizing to add another PPA containing it. WORKAROUND: Another, non-suggested PPA of the owner does contain the required lib version: [ppa:savoury1/vlc3](https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/vlc3) Adding this PPA, too, resolves the problem, making ffmpeg version `7:5.0-2ubuntu0~18.04.sav0` installable. affects ubuntu/bionic/ffmpeg affects savos assignee savoury1 ** Affects: savos Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ffmpeg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Base Ubuntu version: 18.04.6 (bionic) with HWE upgrades enabled Distribution in use: Lubuntu All SavOS PPAs used (when problem happened): - - backports - - display - - ffmpeg4 - - ffmpeg5 - - gimp - - graphics - - meld - - mpv - - multimedia - - utilities + - backports + - display + - ffmpeg4 + - ffmpeg5 + - gimp + - graphics + - mpv + - multimedia + - utilities All other PPAs used: <no conflict, no point> Bug details: FFmpeg in [ppa:savoury1/ffmpeg5](https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/ffmpeg5) currently depends on `libavcodec59` which in turn depends on `libx264-163`.
