I was able to reproduce this bug under lucid in a virtual box (on a different
computer). Unfortenaly a apportbug prevents me from adding the requested
information.
It is much less delay now, but the bug isn't fixed yet. Closing the applet
still causes a few seconds of hanging.

Can you give some information what you exact did? A do-release-upgrade from
