I'm using intrepid 64-bit on a dell xps 1330 with integrated cam. I'm
not getting any working camera with cheese or camorama, it does work
with skype though. And it works when gstreamer-properties is testing.
So... fix? nope.

I have XPS 1330 with built in mic. Worked fine with 8.04 (32-bit) and
works with some (to much) tinkering in 8.10. However I have the same
bug, it is way to soft in the pick up. The mic I can plug in however is
quite loud and can't be regulated properly too: if it's all the way down
it's still quit
I just installed jaunty on an xps 1330 with nvidia 180 drivers and I have no
problem whatsoever without any tricks. I didn't have any since I solved the
problem with the "~$ nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2" trick.

@Andrea, I'm pretty sure I don' t have this problem with Mandriva 2008.1

I can confirm Andrea's findings 100% it sums it up for me completely.
Especially that there is no relation between inplugging / outplugging of the
battery.
On the side, my now 80% complete switch to mandriva to avoid this bug
learned me that (k)ubuntu should drastically improve its kde integration.
I'm using a dell and didn't have this problem with 8.04 32-bit (now using
8.10 64-bit). Isn't pulse-audio in 8.04 to? Then downgrading might work
(either ALSA and/or Pulse) to see which of them causes the problem.
Somewhat strangly, an external mic does work - I cannot alter the input

I can confirm the bug too. But I cannot reasonably ascribe to Nvidia.
Opera works, as does Firefox and IE7 under windows in a virtual machine.
Blaming it on the first thing proprietary seems a bit dull to me.

Sorry but I really resist the logic from Vadim Peretokin and others that the
bug is nvidia's because it works well with ati. If a site works well in IE
is it a bug in firefox if it doesn't work there?
Surely something might need improvement in Nvidia's drivers. But lots and

Same here. To my shame I must say, I'm not even sure I updated. Maybe I
just rebooted. Though the need for reboots seems to be something for
that other os. ;) everything works now.

In 7.10 this is solved. In the mentioned laptop everything works but the
mic-input (which has never worked with linux).
I will never buy an ati card again - no matter how much they say they
improve their drivers. I'm generally a forgiving person though.
