wrong channel upon install. Need to do Ctrl + Vol Up/Down to change

My patch was not for global manipulation of asoundrcs. The global part
was just more of a wishlist on my part. The patch I have submitted only
lets you specify the target user when applying any changes via
asoundconf, so that a user can use asoundconf in usecases like a udev

are you sure it is not a case of simply playing bad bitrate songs or low
quality audio hardware ? Some distortion might be experienced if you are
playing your songs at full volume, or alternatively keeping the speakers
at full volume, or both at the same time. Try lowering the volume a
little, and
what mount options are you changing ? all mount options that you specify
should be stored in /etc/fstab, you can change your options from there.

The thermal module does not work for me, modprobe does not fail, however
I get ACPI Exception (thermal-0339): AE_BAD_DATA, No critical threshold

Downloading and recompiling ALSA from source solves the problem. Just
move the original snd-hda-intel module from
/lib/modules//ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel to somewhere else to
avoid a conflict. Get alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-utils.

I have been using lucid-beta2 for the past week or so and find the
missing tooltip an annoyance.
This is particularly accentuated by the fact that nearly every other
icon in that area has informative tooltips integrated, eg. sound,
network, date. Further, nearly every app that has an icon in that
