In edgy, aptituded up from hoary, I have recently started getting the
"greeter appears to be crashing" error when logging out using the gui
menu. I noticed it about a week ago, but I rarely logged out before
that, except to do a mandated restart. I do not specifically know when

This seems to be a dependency issue that a lot of people are talking
about in the forum but nobody is offering a solution to. I was doing a
Dapper=>Edgy aptitude dist-upgrade. Almost done, the final result of
ongoing 'aptitude dist-upgrades' returns the following dependency
DPKG returns python-gnome2
So many things were going screwy in the GUI that I decided to roll back
from the edgy install, reinstall dapper and get my production machine
up, so I just fdisked the whole thing and started again. The bug is
gone, but not exactly resolved.

My install attempt appears to be calling for python2.5 I have versions
2.4, 2.5, 2.6 installed but 3.1 is the default python on my box. The
whole MGLTools group is still looking for python2.5. I guess you could
back up to python2.5 and get python-pmw to install.
