Only started with the most recent kernel minor version upgrade on Hardy
for me.
Removing the module form the running kernel solved the issue, but imo
12mbps is unacceptable for most tasks involving external disks, for
example.

Confirming on Dell Vostro 1000: Fn+up/down 'steals' keyboard input.
The "fix" for me was to use the magic SysRq key to reset the keyboard
from a virtual terminal - alt+prtscr+r - I don't know if it's the VT
switching or the magic keycombo that fixes it, but this is clearly an
input layer bug.

I followed Phil's lead and tried the mainline generic packages at

as well. I am happy to report that I can write DVD's again with wodim
and Brasero. There are still some strange things occuring, though:
before the write, the writer acts fun
+100. This needs to be fixed.
All that's needed is a cheap wrapper script for /usr/bin to make this
(extremely useful and clean looking) tool useful. It could be installed
and/or created by the package installation.

in disc writing, and GnomeBaker at any supported speed (1x, 2x, 4x, 8x,
'Max Speed').
I haven't tried K3B, but I'm going to try growisofs from the console and see if
it works for a dummy burn.

instead of simply reporting no error/warning at all, and returning to
the "Idle" state.

I think there's also something else going on (perhaps with filling a
buffer, although that's a shot in the dark) beyond a UI issue: streams I
know to work for sure in other applications (ie. they are up, open for
connection, and latency is low) still take at least 3 tries to connect
in Banshee.

I don't think this is a duplicate. The behaviour I'm reporting leaves
Banshee in a usable state. I can still use all features of the
application. The problem is not a crash or a hang, but that the stream
doesn't connect, nothing is reported, and after two more attempts, the
stream works.
