I got the sound working in Karmic by installing gnome-alsa mixer. Sound
did not work at all before doing that.
Sound works now, tone control works great, volume really sucks canal
water.
Compared to volume in Jaunty the max volume is under 25%.

All I can say is that this is not an improvement at all.
Folks need an obvious way to check the disk for defects.
The old menu was easy for me, as a noob, to figure out when I came in on
8.04. I think this would have run me off.

I am on amd64. Upgraded with "apt-get dist-upgrade". Synaptic running
when notification came up. Here I am.
Cleaned up some things in synaptic and am installing stellarium through
it right now. I do not have a clue what this is that crashed unless it
has something to doe with that wonderfully

On my 9.04>9.10>10.04 upgrade (ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO) I got the low
graphic warning on bootup once and tried clicking OK and then it
crashed. Have not been able to boot in to it since then at all.
Well, I have not tried getting in as root.
CLI log in fails with a warning that xorg does not exis
My monitor did not shut down. Did not get message. Hit enter after a
minute wait. Nothing happened.

I do not use auto login as a general rule. I read this and decided to

I was removing and installing grub-common and removing grub and installing
grub-pc in an upgraded 8.04>10.04 installation when this occurred.

The only source package I can find is "karmic". The problem is with
grub2, really /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
I have a lot of OS' on my two testing platforms. i have 32bit OS' on a
single internal drive and 64 bit on an external enclosure with dual

have DRI turned off and while the GDM no longer loops it is because the

xorg.confg. The clean installs (A4 updated and A5)
I can not get any of my 4 up to date installs of 9.10 64bit to shut down
right.
Not only that but they will not boot up either. Will boot somewhat to
recovery mode but not except password for terminal.
Installed another A4, no updates. Can boot it and boot to recovery menu
on others from there.
I have no idea why this has popped up on a couple of my 9.10 variations.
Not doing anything that should call for this at all.
This is an upgrade from 9.04.

I am trying to upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10. Dist-upgrade fails due to too
many errors. The root of those errors seems to be the inability to
configure dbus due to the lack of this file.

9.10beta for no reason that I could see.

Bug #933973 has been named a duplicate of this one. Not sure why but I
will post this here as that bug is not confirmed.
Had upgrades for the same packages today in Xubuntu 12.04 and in Debian
Wheezy.
The Xubuntu packages, all related to cups and bluez will not install in
a chroot environment.
Public bug reported:
I have Xubuntu 12.04-testing installed on my external drive.
It gets updated in a chroot environment from my main drive under Debian
testing.
All packages seem to work fine except for cups, blues-cups and anyother
cups related package. They all throw a dpkg code 1 error.

I should add that this is not a huge problem.
Running "dpkg --configure -a" when booted into Xubuntu takes instant
care of it.

"Open with Document Viewer". Nothing happens.
