I have a Toshiba S55 A5176 laptop.
The Grub2 menu shows up ok.
But the only way that I am able to boot Ubuntu 13.10(live or installed)
is if I disable the NIC(using BIOS). If the NIC is enabled, then the
screen stays black.
I am however able to boot in Fedora 20 almost ever

Ubuntu 13.10 does not boot on Toshiba S55
To manage notifications a
I tested with the latest daily version of ubuntu and the problem is
solved.
Also, Toshiba released version 1.6 of the BIOS, and this solved the
problem for Ubuntu 13.10
This is not an issue anymore.

The latest version of the daily build does not manifest the issue.
The issue was also solved for Ubuntu 13.10 by upgrading to the 1.6 Bios version
released on Feb 25 2004 by Toshiba.
