This is a problem for my Rails Web Server.
The irb package should create a symlink in the same way that the ruby
package creates a symlink for "ruby".
/usr/bin/irb -> /usr/bin/irb1.8
I am going to head over to the irb package now...

I am not sure why this is marked as fixed when the Hardy (8.04) irb

Ok sorry for the noise.
Somewhere in my installation "irb1.8" was pulled in as a dependency but
not "irb".
Thanks.

I have also been affected by this problem after an upgrade from Breezy
to dapper. I guess the newer package scripts should detect and remove
any old files that should no longer be installed.
Thanks.

I know very little about debconf so do not understand the technical
issue alluded to above regarding pam and debconf.
However, I do not think it should be in the default configuration that
smb passwords maybe used to login - that is a specific requirement that
should not be enabled by default.

You possibly need to have set some of your environment variables first?

Perhaps it would make sense to exclude .pid files from /var/run/*?
They certainly have no meaning as far as being restored and in some I
