LDAP authentication fails multiple times before success

Under the Network Connections GUI, no other interface existed (this
device connects via usb to ethernet). I tried creating a new connection
using the MAC address of the usb device and setting the routes to only
use that connection for resources in its network, but the issue remains.

It appears I was wrong. I just tested the USB device on another
computer, also running 10.04 and it worked without interfering with the
other connections on the computer. However, a different usb to ethernet
device is also working without trouble on the original machine which had
trouble. So bot
The current working ethernet/usb device on that computer is connected to
the same hub on the same port as the "defective" one had been.

Not sure what this error in the log file is saying, though the only
noticeable difference between the OS on the two machines is the first
computer (which does not work with the first network adapter) is running
64-bit Ubuntu whereas the computer which the adapter works on has i386
architecture.
