I've been googling around on occasion for a solution to this problem,
and I thought I'd let you know that it's more likely to be something
that can be fixed in Compiz or X.org, rather than Ubuntu.
This is my assumption --- since I use FreeBSD, not Ubuntu, and I have

Similar problem here using ati M6 card on a thinkpad x30.
System locks up totally after 10-40 minutes of use, no visible errors,
only started when I upgraded to dapper-release (earlier releases of
dapper were fine).
A solution to this one would be great!

Thanks to poster before, I was able to fix the issue.
My steps:
1) change recovery mode command line in GRUB from "ro single" to "rw break=init"
2) chroot /root /bin/bash
3) dhclient (to get IP/network configuration)
4) apt-get up

I am having trouble with my wireless card, it works fine in the
installer, and then to the point I have to install the Nvidia drivers
and then after the reset I loss the ability to use my wireless card. The
card is a Ralink - RT3290. It seems like the device fails to start at
I think you are right Phillip, I think that it has something to do with
the kernal that shipped with 16.04. I was able to fix the problem with
doing a full upgrade, using the command sudo apt-get upgrade and that
seemed to add a few fixes and one of them being the ability for the wifi
to start.

I upgraded yesterday to 13.04 from Ubuntu Studio 12.10; running xfce4
and xfwm4. On a dual-monitor setup, I accidentally kicked out the DVI
cable from one of the monitors and plugged it back in (this may have
already happened once or twice without consequence; I can't remembe

Settings to detect the monitor. So apparently a loose monitor cable can
