Now the annoying sound seems to be gone forever. Unfortunately nothing
comes out of the subwoofer anymore. Here are my steps (all are already
named here, but I'm summing up)
1) Install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic
2) Add "export PULSE_NO_SIMD=1" to /usr/bin/start-pulseaudio-x11

Now I set disable-lfe-remixing = true in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and the

I tried again since I figured out, that the mainline kernel did boot. It
just couldn't start GDM / the xserver.
But I could log in on the tty and the kern.log didn't show the bug
message. It is of course possible, that the bug didn't occur because
the xserver didn't start, but maybe it is fixed u

I also made a screenshot of when the freeze happens. It always happens
in this situation (minimizing / closing the last open window). The
screenshot was made after I had the stack. Didn't want things to
interfere.

No I didn't change the default settings in CCSM.
I tried the nouveau driver --> The problem is gone. So it's a problem
with nvidia.
Interesting though: Disabling the minimizing effect in CCSM doesn't fix the
bug. It still freezes when minimizing.

I got a new clue. I always disable nautilus for drawing my desktop (I
don't use the desktop at all, since I got my beloved Unity ;) ). Now I
reenabled it and it seems to solve the bug (maybe work around it since
