It looks like the seamless integration does not work well.
It looks like the mouse in the virtual machine updates not as often as it
should. Once the window failed to hide the host cursor and I was able to click
on widgets even though the guest mouse pointer was not there

Confirming that as well, this is not a mouse-only problem.
With alpha1 the mouse move does not trigger any lags. With current

I am experiencing this issue and I found plymouthd process running when it
should not be (at least it shuts down on my Aspire One netbook when GDM starts
up).
The plymouthd process is so stuck that it is not possible for gdb to attach to
it. It is not possible to kill plymouthd process with KILL
After digging further I see that sometimes plymouthd does not receive
quit command, but when it does, it hangs with the following:
(me sends quit command):
read(6, "Q\2", 2) = 2
read(6, "\1", 1)= 1
read(6, "\0", 1)= 1
getsockop
fd 11 is /dev/dri/card0.
So, plymouth sends some ioctl to the gfx card and then decides to hang
completely.
Alt+SysRq+K on the plymouth terminal kills plymouthd and it allows gdm startup.

Could that be the touchpad malfunctioning and sending left click event (and
forgetting to clear the bit)?
Does it happen when touchpad is turned off?
BTW, i am on Lucid, x86-64 / AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint and just
experienced this bug.
