I've tried adding "lapic" to /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="vga=791

after restarting there is no change in the user experience :)
Only changes I've found are the following in the kern.log:

noticed that after normal shut down (not hibernation) Ethernet port

I hope I could use my R100 notebook with newer Ubuntu releases, but as
betzi said there are more and more bugs and failures that don't allow to
use it normally with this Linux distro.
The last Ubuntu release was around version 7 or early 8 that could use
most of this notebook's features (mainly AC
I'm not using SSD. I bet any of us with this problem doesn't use SSD. My
Toshiba Portege R100 is an old Pentium M 1GHz with IDE interface. As you
could read before: my Ethernet link is active (connectivity LED is lit).
I don't know what other components might be active...

Several Toshiba models have ACPI issues, so I marked it back as 'New' as
Jeremy told. There are many bug reports about this problem: 20727,
22096, 81401, 128320, 210222, 241180, 340369, 471934. And these are just
