on an ETA. Disabling DRI in xorg.conf and/or removing compiz is a
partial workaround. However, it slows down rendering on my machine so
much that I had to revert back to Hardy. I am hoping for a real fix

I can confirm that removing all compiz packages does work around this
problem now. I don't even need to explicitly specify the "intel"
driver. It didn't help when I first found the problem over a month ago,
but now it works.

my system too. I can now log in again and it's a little faster, but

Removing compiz did not solve the problem for me. As a workaround,
disabling DRI in xorg.conf seems to allow a user to log in normally.
Compiz will not work in this case and rendering is noticeably slower.

Yah, it's too bad they couldn't get a fix in sooner, but it was probably
more risky to introduce a new upstream version before release. I'm not
even sure this has been fixed upstream yet. However, I'm sure it will
be resolved soon and pushed to Intrepid as an update.

Interesting. Removing compiz had no effect for me except for displaying
a different color other than black during the freeze. Disabling DRI is
the best workaround that we've found so far I think. However, novice
users may just give up and switch to a different OS :/

I just upgraded to cups 1.2.1 and removed the hpoj package. Now I can
print to the photo tray successfully!
However, I cannot get it to print without a margin. gnome-photo-printer

When pidgin is set to launch automatically upon login and the "Blink on
new Message" setting is enabled, the space taken up in the notification
area is much larger than it should be when blinking. It actually grows
and shrinks as the icon blinks.
This appears to be fixed with the latest Pidgin 2.4.0 package. It might
just be coincidence that it didn't occur based on the startup sequence
so I will continue to monitor it. However, the problem was pretty
consistent before this upgrade and it hasn't resurfaced since.

Hi,
I was also affected by this bug.
I've tried the workaround from comment #109. After restarting FF, nothing has
changed.
So I tried to restart the system. After restart, the fonts in FF are OK, and
the fonts in Skype (2.1.0 beta) are also OK.
