I have attached my xorg.conf.  It allows normal login and usage of the
gnome desktop except that hardware acceleration is disabled.  That
produces very slow screen redraws, unnecessary CPU utilization, and
compiz won't run (among other things).  It's a bad workaround, but it
functions until this can be fixed.

My video card is as follows:
