This is still a problem in Fujitsu Lifebook S6410P using released
Intrepid Ibex 8.10 with all updates as of 16 Nov 2008.
It has actually degraded since Hardy. Found the following not working:
- Mute (either pressing FN+f3 or clicking Mute on control panel)
- Up/Down volume (Fn + F9 / F8)

Have found that the touchpad sensitivity has been fixed. Over a period

I too had this problem. I could play sound but not video and according to the
help page I needed the java media framework to do this. JMF is not in the
repositories so I downloaded it from sun and tried to install it - this failed
but I found a web page detailing how to rename the bin to zip,
confirmed - upgrade to 2.6.29.4 (2.6.29-02062904-generic) from kernel-
ppa fix this behaviour

I had this bug for ages and I have just solved it in the most trivial

My system is configured to use ALSA, I'm using KDE as a Window Manager

I'm using Intrepid and get the same bug when I download videos from my
video-cam in kdenlive (with firewire). Since a new .dv file is produced for
every scene kdenlive detects (typically 5 to 20 seconds) I get easily some
hundred .dv-files.
The title of the files is something like "capture1

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try. It doesn't solve the underlying
problem though, namely that NM 0.7 still seems to have some quirks that
needs ironing out in PIN handling. I can get online so it's just a minor

After startup of live CD (Kubuntu 8.10 rc1), a glimpse of the desktop is shown,
then it goes blank.

xorg seems to be ok running from install on hard drive. Boots to full
resolution and glxinfo says direct rendering: yes
Twinview doesn't behave quite the same as on 8.04, in that wallpaper
doesn't run across both screens in 8.10 - they have to be set
individually.

Running Kubuntu 8.10 rc1
In System Settings > Network Settings, there seems to be no fields to set a
static IP address. This was available in 8.04 and earlier versions.
Please restore the facility to set a static IP address.

NetworkManager does not provide a way for static IP configuration
Quanta installed fine here on Kubuntu 8.10 rc, using Adept.
Suggest you try again (in case the repository is updating), or switch to
another repo.

Adept does not list Medibuntu packages after repository is added. Kubuntu 8.04
and earlier did this ok.

Been testing ut intrepid 8.10 on my asus eee, and just last week got
networkmanager to work with my huawei e220.
The new version has a popup dialogue asking for national operator. (Netcom in
Norway, in my case)
After selecting NetCom I

For example, search in Adept on "kscreensaver" returns no matches found. Same
search in Synaptic on same box returns 4 packages on this string.

Here is my syslog from the failed connection attempts yesterday.

It seems there are 2 different utilities here; Adept Installer and Adept
Manager.
The Adept Installer only lists a restricted range of packages, but it is Adept
Installer that is in the Kmenu. I couldn't find Adept Manager from the Kmenu,

I tried to fill in my PIN, but there seems to be two problems with it:
1) If connection is a "System setting" (i.e. system-wide) network-
manager refuses to remember PIN.
2) If connection is NOT "system setting", network-manager remembers PIN
but is unable to unlock device (E220)
I can now get
OK, tried removing libmbca0, delete the Netcom profile and reboot - made
no difference.
Able to connect with auto connection profile, but only after I unlock
PIN via wvdial first. Seems NM still is not able to unlock my E220 PIN
on its own.

Tried first to connect E220 and login, did not work. Then deleted auto
gsm profile and created a new one, wrote PIN code in the profile and
tried to connect. Didn't work. Then did wvdial pin to unlock pin and
tried to connect, worked on second attempt. (First fail ma
