I had the problem on a new install of 12.04 LTS with a Lanier LD320d
network printer. I tried to add a printer with the "Printing" program in
the Dash.

Here's the manual workaround for the problem I described earlier.
When adding the printer with the "Printer" program, I manually entered
the URI (ipp://192.168.2.202:631/ipp). That gave me a dialog that gave
me the option to supply the PPD. I had downloaded Lanier-MP_2000_LD320d-

I had the same error message when I upgraded from Hardy Heron (8.04) to
Lucid Lynx (10.04). My upgrade was done via the automatic upgrade
program, and I don't know which server the upgraded OS came from.
Somehow, my Lucid Lynx upgrade is functional, though the user interface
response stalls from t

Like Egbert, upgrading to the lastest stable 5.4 kernel version
(5.4.41-050441-generic in my case) resolved the issue. I have been using
PHPStorm (v 2020.1) for a week and didn't experience any freeze since

Marco, I can reproduce that with 100% reliability on my 16.04 beta (with
all the updates installed). When I see the auth dialog (i.e. after
locking the screen or returning from sleep), I hit ctrl+alt+F6
ctrl+alt+F7 and gain access to my system. During the process, nothing at
all gets added to /var/
Sort-of temporary workaround: vmware-view-client works in 32-bit chroot.
I made a setup script for those who'd like to try it out:

On my laptop, Alt-F2 doesn't work with external USB keyboard if Num Lock
is on.
Works if Alt is pressed on laptop's built-in keyboard (regardless if F2
is pressed on built-in or external keyboard).
If Num Lock is off, Alt-F2 works on both keyboards (as well as both
