Attempted upgrade to 8.04 fails, then all upgrades fail
https://bugs.
After a couple of reboots, and removing the driver for the GEForce card,
the system permitted me to upgrade. I dont know enough about the driver
to guess what happened, although it was provided by the manufacturer I
think.
Anyway, I am happy with 8.04 so far!!!

Attempted upgrade to 8.04 fails
Interesting question.
I just did this and the DVD mounted and I was able to burn an ISO using
Brasero!
A quick test suggests that blank DVDs are automounted - presumably till I next
reboot without a blank dvd. Note that I only had mounting problems with DVDs,
CDs are OK. Burner is LG GSA4082B.
Results of further testing:
Immediately after the above test, I was able to play a DVD movie (which
was not happening before- at least since I upgraded to Hardy- alll was
OK in Gutsy), and I went to bed relatively happy that a crude workaround
was in place.
Now I cant repeat this last part... inc

The answer to Question #128732 led me to try adding a line to the conf file as
follows.
"...
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
In gedit, scroll down and ADD the following line in the /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base.conf file:
options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dig
