My problem is similar to this one. I tried fresh installing Ubuntu 11.04
over 10.10 on my MacBook Pro 5,4 with the ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64.iso
image. Only it never boots successfully. On every fourth (or so) time, I
get an "invalid arch independent ELF magic" error. It looks like the fix

That wasn't clear to me, thank you.
I usually run only Ubuntu on my MacBook. I still have the OS X DVD lying
around. I will try installing that, doing that bless thing, and an
Ubuntu reinstall. Using the same image I used before.
Is there a specific Mac Ubuntu image I should be using instead?

I ended up installing OS X on an external USB drive. Only reflashing the
firmware doesn't seem to be working. :(

Hi, I'm running natty now, but I reinstalled the system from
scratch,i.e., I didn't do an upgrade from lucid->maverick->natty which
means i didn't get xfs installed.
While using maverick I had a few reproducible X restarts while running
pidgin with fluxbox, but I don't know if it's related as I di
quick manual fix:
ln -sf /usr/lib/atlas-base/atlas/libblas.a /etc/alternatives/libblas-3.a
ln -sf /usr/lib/atlas-base/atlas/libblas.so /etc/alternatives/libblas-3.so
ln -sf /usr/lib/atlas-base/atlas/liblapack.a liblapack-3.a
ln -sf /usr/lib/atlas-base/atlas/liblapack.so /etc/alternatives/liblapack
actually, there's also some more missing links in /usr/lib to libatlas.a

Had the same issue, with ubuntu natty 11.04. Installed the
aforementioned debian package and the hello_world example works, along
with some other applications that use pyglet.

This bug is still present in natty, clean installation. My simple TeX
file above (test1.tex) still doesn't work.
I downloaded the cvs version of auctex (2011-05-09):

I agree with the above posters. This is a _very_ serious bug that kills
MacBooks. This needs to be listed in the release notes.
Mine is still dead. It will not boot. I've installed OS X on an external
USB drive but bless doesn't seem to work from there.
