AN other important miss - As I said the AMD logo problem seems to be OK
with the current FGLRX but also this new FGLRX does an rewrite of my
xorg.conf ( I don't know why all was rewritten - because there was
settings from Screen and Graphics - where I put my Monitor - detected
initially as Plug and
OTHER QUESTION -> Compiz OR not ? - Bug or deliberate, user choice
option ?
Opensource ATI driver = Compiz but no 3D acceleration
fglrx from Ubuntu repositories = No Compiz but 3D acceleration
fglrx form AMD website + workarounds ( some symlinks ) = Compiz + 3D
acceleration

As I tested so far - only with drivers from AMD website you can enable
Compiz. I don't know why.
Also a workaround (ONLY ATI CARDS!!) for No Direct Rendering after FGLRX
install
-> Press Ctrl + Alt + F2. then login, type : aticonfig --initial -f and press
Enter, then type : aticonfig --overl
then how we can stop the computer ??
after I do Ctrl + Backspace 5 from 7 times my computer freeze - I need to
restart then (it's an FGLRX known bug). So if Poewr button is disabled, how I
can safe-shutdown ?.

damage your work.
And we don't like to think about. Power Button must be locked too.

this feature exist from ages in Gnome Panel.
Right click on gnome-panel > Properties > Background > Background Image ..then
select the right image (that you can do yourself in 3 minutes in Inkscape or
Gimp OR you can download a proper image from the net).

I have to confirm this bug - it allways occur when the linux restricted
modules OR fglrx is upgraded.
If is an known behavior on those circumstances - this crash report can

by far, dcherryholmes - is not a FGLRX problem.
is a Compiz Problem. Paths are wrong. So take a look in /usr/bin/compiz
( sudo gedit /usr/lib/compiz )
at first block, You will see :

I can confirm this bug with ATI 9600 XT and fglrx 8.02, Hardy up to
date.
After last upgrades - I can not set 1152x864x75.
Nor from gconf, and xorg.conf is useless too.
it start every time at 1280x1024x60. I need to use resapplet after each
boot to set the correct resolution.

Same problem with Inkscape and Listen - I compiled Inkscape from SVN Trunk
...same gslice error ( GSlice: g_thread_init() must be called before all other
GLib functions; memory corruption due to late invocation of g_thread_init() has
been detected; )
then I uninstall it and I put Inkscape from S
VLC work with G_SLICE=always-malloc vlc. Gslice msg is still there.
btw Inkscape problems seems to be solved - with the updated
libgtkmm-2.4 ( via upgrade ). I compiled Inkscape again from svn -> so
Inkscape start and I can work ..but the error message is still there.
