About syncing it, probably you will have the same "problem" as us on Debian.

will see the same problem if you update your system).
Even using version 6.4.5.4 (Debian experimental) it seems that the problem is

I can confirm this on Debian, with libgtk2.0-0 from experimental
(version 2.11.6, while with version 2.10.13 it builds without any
problem).

On my Debian unstable system, odt2txt properly works with the attached
file.
With pt_BR.UTF-8, de_DE and de_DE.UTF-8 I can see "Voß" without any problems
