have a typescript file saved in the VM, if you'd like details. At this

@Joseph: Do I need to have upgraded to Precise before trying out this

[ 3.0.0-14 regression ] Radeon 3200 GPU blank screen on resu
By the way, I suspect that this VM is sufficiently hosed that I'm not
concerned about trying to recover from the current problems. If there's
value to Ubuntu in doing further troubleshooting, I'm happy to help with
that. Otherwise, I'm willing to revert to my last 11.10 snapshot and

Okay, I've installed and booted the 3.3.0rc6 kernel. Since the problem
is intermittent, I'll wait a few days before reporting back.
There was a DKMS error message when installing the test kernel, and I'm
unable to start one of my VirtualBox VMs when the host is running the
3.3.0 kernel.

I've done several successful suspend/resumes with the 3.3rc6 kernel,
using Xubuntu, Ubuntu, and Ubuntu 2D sessions. No failed resumes. I
think it likely that I would have triggered the blank-screen bug at
least once if I had been running the 3.0.0.16 kernel during that time.
FWIW, I did have one
Okay, I took another stab at doing an upgrade in my VM. It still fails
in the same was as before.
I've attached 2 logs.
reinstall-20120311.log has the results from the steps listed in comment
#5.
configure-20120311.log has some debugging output from "dpkg

In comment #10, that should have been "same way as before".
I don't understand kernel packaging/installation, but Googling suggests
the following is useful information:

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: cscope
I was installing the cscope package with Synaptic when it complained
about an error. From Synaptic's log (below), it appears that the error
is related to Emacs, possibly installing an Emacs front-end to cscope,
but that's just a guess.

The error left cscope in a failed-config state (although it worked fine
for my purposes), and a subsequent update to an unrelated package
produced the same error message. I didn't want to get in the habit of
ignoring errors from the Update Manager, so I looked for a way to get
