I started getting this same problem today. My laptop has frozen in the

those lights were flashing. I'm using the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 8.10

Changing from Automatic to X11 fixed this annoying bug for me. I wonder
if this is more to do with an NVIDIA bug.

Is anyone able to suggest an alternative way to reduce the number of
cores used in a virtual machine to 1? Because of Bug #228442 I'm
currently having to put up with my virtual machine using 100% of the

This bug isn't present in Hardy (presumably since it uses a newer
version of Alsa than Gutsy). So this bug should probably be closed, or
at least marked as affecting only Gutsy.

How long will it take for this new version of Alsa to be part of Ubuntu?
Will it ever be an update in the Gutsy repos, or do we have to wait
until Hardy?
