Hm, it appears that any changing of style and pressing apply does the
crash, but if I change and press on other tab (like fonts) style changes
and no crash! Maybe the apply button itself is bugged?

I thought that if there was a problem with initramfs-tools, I will not

I've applied that patch (debdiff attached), and tried it, but it doesn't

We too have several OptiPlex 330 with Ubuntu 8.04 and have got same
restart failing problem on all of them. Shutdown works OK.
We experienced the same issue with Fedora 9 on the same (OptiPlex 330)
computers.
This could be a Dell/Linux problem more than an Ubuntu problem.
