I also had these connection getting stuck randomly problem, they appeard when
transfering
much data using samba server and a windows client with a gigabit connection.
I applied the patch from

to the sky2 v1.4 driver from ubuntu
I can confirm this bug.
Happened for me with Edgy 32bit.
The included gnu parted 1.7.1 is broken. I created a 2.7 TB GTP partition, and
initialized it with ext3.
On reboot fsck reported that the file system was larger then the partition, and
it was unuseable.
I compiled/installed parted 1.8.8
Typo. I meant GPT instead of GTP in the above comment.

I can confirm that the workaround of deleting xorg.conf works. I was
able to swith from 1024*768 to the proper 1920*1200 with a HP LP2465.

a 1 to 3 devices that belongs to the real raid array.

The rts5139 driver is responsible for both, the messages and also the
non-working SD card slot.
After "sudo rmmod rts5139" the warnings that were printed every 5
seconds will stop.

I just made a full update on a 180 days old 12.04.2 system. Everything
was fine before, but on reboot I'm dropped into this rescue shell,
because /dev/sdc1 is detected as belonging to a degraded raid.
