I'm having a similar issue, but I'm not using the Intel Driver...rather
the nVidia driver with an nVidia card.

Yes, I was using the nvidia driver because I had installed it within
Intrepid. I upgrade to Jaunty from Intrepid, so it kept the driver.
I remember when installing Intrepid, it installed without the
proprietary driver. Isn't there a way to supress the exisitng driver
during the upgrade process?
I am using the final release candidate of Intrepid for Desktops. It
works fine on my laptop, but fails loading on my desktop. I've tried
both the LiveCD and a USB image created using the Intrepid tool which I
created on the laptop.

I ran the live version of Alpha 6 and it ran on this same machine
without an issue. Isn't there some way, and I'm sure this has been
discussed, that upon upgrading, that the proprietary drivers are
checked for compatibilty, and if they fail, an error comes up saying
that the driver is being turned

Removed quiet and usplash. GNOME loaded, but "Applications" menu text
was unreadable and keyboard/mouse were unrespsonive.

This occurred with Alpha 6 as well. However, once removing the internal
ATI video card, the server loaded without any issues. What information
can I provide to help prevent this from reoccurring, and allowing me to
use my video card.

This bug is preventing me from completing my upgrade.
I do not have a graphical interface yet because xserver is not starting
due to this bug:

Essentially, I am at a standstill until this is resolved or I am given a
suggestion to temporarily resolve this.
Unfortunately, due to another bug, this time involving the upgrade
process, these two bugs now have me at a complete standstill. I was
just wondering if someone has a suggestion on how to at least
temporarily resolve this so I can get xserver up and my GUI working so I
can test the rest of Jaunty

ran apt-get update to refresh the packages in my system
ran apt-get dist-upgrade, upgraded my system without choking and fully
completed.

I think you hit on it that it might be a migration scripting issue.
When I was on intepid, I was using the restricted nvida driver (do not
remember which one), not -nv and 3D was working perfectly. The
problem appears to have been that when I performed the dist-grade, it
might have reverted back t

Please know that this is the server version, not the generic. So it
actually required me to use:
vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-server instead. not sure if that makes a difference,
or if it is the kernel itself.
