contains spaces, but it seems that /proc/mounts does not. /proc/mounts

The machine initially had a current intrepid on it. I started the

It looks to me, from a quick analysis of the log files, that this was a
temporary problem with some packages in the beta version of gutsy. The
bug has no duplicates, and there doesn't seem to be other similar bugs

Suggestion from IRC was to add "iommu=soft" to kernel command line.
This resulted in grub or the kernel booting right back to BIOS again. No

I'm using the stock GTK+ list widget for this, and the default way in
which it works is that you have to select the actual tickbox once and
then moving up and down with arrow keys and ticking/unticking with space
works. I thought update-manager did the same thing, but now I see that
it's doing some
computer-janitor reports the error message it gets from dpkg, and it
handles and reports explicitly locking, too. (I just verified that.)
Sometimes package installs or (especially) removals fail silently, but
temporarily, because of maintainer scripts, and I suspect this was one
of those cases. I

at least the problem I am seeing is not related to Parted Magic
(whatever that is): my disks are brand new and completely empty. It is
also not related to all WD disks, some of my WD disks do work.

When update-manager checks for updates, it downloads lists of packages
and stores them for the package manager to use. If it did not do this,
there would be no persistent memory of what happened during the check.
That would be bad, because the lists can be large, and it takes a while
to download th

changes to dpkg, which did not happen during jaunty, unfortunately.
Computer-janitor can't automate it, also unfortunately.

I seem to have the same problem, with a WD Caviar SE WD2500AAJS drive.
The gutsy kernel works (for the disk), everything from hardy to jaunty
beta does not.
What can I do to help get this fixed?

phenest, the "residual config" was planned for jaunty, but didn't make
it, so it'll happen for karmic instead. It is a good idea, although not
entirely risk-less.
CJ already separates between 'local or obsolete' and 'autoremovable'.
Jan, changing gdebi to whitelist packages would be a nice first
Computer Janitor does not deal with only packages. It also deal with
configuration tweaks. A the moment there's not a whole lot of other
stuff than packages, but there will be more. Thus, I am afraid I'm going
to decline this.

is wrong, and "computerjanitorapp" is right.
