Public bug reported:
Shortly before Dapper was made final, a new fglrx driver was introduced
into the archive, with version number 7.0.0-8.25.18+2.6.15.11-1 .
With this driver, shutdown from the gnome menu only works about 1/4 of
the time.
Most of the timel, the screen immediately goes black aft
I've filed a separate bug for the "screen going dark" issue,

When you say "cursor", you mean the mouse pointer, right?
If so, this is indeed a bug in the fglrx driver. For me, this bug only
appears when I don't have DRI (direct rendering) properly configured.
With DRI correctly set up, I don't see this junk below the mouse
pointer.

The testing package of libasound2 built by @hui.wang has resolved the
issue for me as well. Thank you!

Public bug reported:
The following simple netplan config results in a 2-minut unneccessary
delay on boot. Everything works like it should in the end. The bridge
has no interfaces due to a regression in Ubuntu migrating to netplan

Public bug reported:
While systemd supports bringing up independent openvpn services, there
is currently no way of declaring these in netplan like it was in
/etc/network/interfaces.
Critically, it is no longer feasible to have such a device in a bridge
that is declared in netplan.
