Yes, I can confirm that. Also happens with the settings UI.
On a side note, I tried making a video of the behavior with gtk-
recordmydesktop but it won't record the sound.

to me that I can not move the mouse anymore. It just stays statically on
the screen, even if I move my fingers over the touchpad of my netbook.

Worth a try: I was able to boot again after running

in safe mode.

Today I had to find that I could not start unity anymore. Restarting and
choosing the classic desktop at log-in, I shockingly had to note it was
not even installed anymore for some reason.
