i can't see that there is really a fix released for that problem, it just says
"Closing your installation report". In my opinion the problem was not solved by
a fix, but by manually manipulation of the reporter's system.

If anacron is installed (which is at least on a normal desktop
installation), the pausing apt script also blocks other tasks in
/etc/cron.daily/. It would be nice if the apt task is put into
background and anacron continouse with other tasks.
Alternatively, the apt task should be the last task in
0.99.3-2ubuntu3.7 from the ppa also fixes the problem with a too high
RightEdge value on a Toshiba Tecra S1.

1. crate a new vmware vm: typical, linux, ubuntu (8GB harddrive)

1. Set (fake) proxy information via "System->Preferences->Network proxy". Enter
also (fake) authentication data (Button "Details").
2. Use Alt-F2 to start "gnome-terminal". In that terminal execute the command

setupcon" if i choose a specific codeset within "dpkg-reconfigure
console-setup":

Here's how i solved the problem on my system...
The cups error log (http://localhost:631/admin/log/error_log) reported

So i enabled logging of debug information via /etc/foomatic/filter.conf
i confirm this bug still in feisty (LiveCD). I am behind a proxy
requiring authentication, maybe the problem occours just in that
combination. After all it is possible to 'skip' (button) that part, but
i think an ordinary user is not happy with this solution.

I can reproduce this with karmic gnome.
After selecting "shutdown" a dialog appears with a 60 seconds countdown. Now i
close the lid. Instead of shutting down, the laptop suspends now.
After pressing a key i enter my password, the screen is restored and the
countdown continues. Ok, i could cance
This one seems to be fixed at least in 9.10.

The proposed version does not work for me.

Does this also fix the following problem with '/usr/bin/do-release-
upgrade' which i have with jaunty?
The python script tries to download something like
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-release, but fails because of not handling
proxy authentification. The problematic code is in
/usr/share/py
@Michael: Well, it is just simple authentication. Here's what i did:
$ sudo env | grep http_proxy; sudo /usr/bin/do-release-upgrade
[sudo] password for user:
http_proxy=http://user:passw...@proxy.abc.de:3128/

after downloading the content of http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-
release manually to /var/lib/update-manager/meta-release, the script
runs a little bit further:
Debug output of do-release-upgrade now shows:
$ sudo DEBUG_UPDATE_MANAGER=1 /usr/bin/do-release-upgrade

/usr/share/pyshared/UpdateManager/Core/MetaRelease.py uses urllib. Well,
it uses urllib2...
@Michael: Your patch fixes my problem in "update-manager". Thats great!
But it did not fix it in 'do-release-upgrade'.

Michael, the proxy configuration has been also in the gnome proxy configuration
ever since and it does not work without the patch.
Your second patch again fixes "update-manager" but not "do-release-upgrade"

Shortly after reboot, two kworker processes run at about 20% CPU.
Sometimes the mouse is getting somehow viscous and lagged.
