Battery level came back automagically this morning (UTC time).
In the meantime, I have reboobed, dist-upgraded (nothing kernel or ACPI
related was updated), and booted MacOS X.
I will report back later if this problem appears again.

[GUTSY] ACPI: battery state reporting errors since 2.6.22-
Battery level disappeared again after a reboot yesterday. Rebooted Linux
several times and it did not reappear.
Booting MacOS X and then rebooting to Linux made it work again.
So it seems to be related to some registers that MacOS X initialize and Linux
does not. The weird thing is that I don't r
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: hplip
If I try to launch hp-toolbox from the command line I get:

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: kubuntu-default-settings
The latest version of kubuntu-default-settings is lacking the part of the
postinst who changed the kdm theme and the wallpaper.
I've also noticed that the Theme= parameter of my kdmrc is now
Theme=@@@ToBeReplacedByDesktopBase@@@
I re-open because when kdm start I get the default kdm login theme, even
if kds is installed. I don't if it's related but the ksplash is way too
big on my system.

Okay, I've found where the problem came from and I fixed it.
Basically the use of /etc/default/kdm.d cause lot of problems:
- The wallpaper selected in systemsettings kdm module is default_blue.jpg,
which is confusing for the user, since it is replaced at run time with the
kubuntu-wallpaper.png
-
If I just type "python /usr/share/hplip/hpssd.py -ldebug -x"
I get: "error: HPMUDEXT could not be loaded. Please check HPLIP installation."
and hpssd.py stop.
